Today the Anaheim Ducks players hit the ice at the Rinks at Anaheim ICE. Players who participated in the World Cup of Hockey tournament were not present. Rickard Rakell, who had to drop out of the tournament, is still in Sweden recovering.

Rakell had surgery last week to fix complications from his appendectomy last spring. It appears he will be out for at least another week before he starts to train again. Rakell is still a restricted free agent with Anaheim, but according to the Swedish Sport Express, Russia’s KHL club HC Sibir Novosibirsk has shown interest in having Rakell play for them. If Anaheim doesn’t re-sign Rakell soon, he could choose to play in the KHL until an agreement is reached.

According to Rakell’s agent Peter Wallen, negotiations have been going on for a long time with Anaheim and various different types of contracts have been discussed. No potential financial numbers or details have been disclosed.

Ducks Camp Begins

The Ducks saw a familiar face today as head coach Randy Carlyle led the practice. Carlyle didn’t miss a beat as the practice was “high-pace” and “high-octane” according to Cam Fowler. Carlyle still has high expectations for the team this season and looks at the blueline depth as a “luxury” for Anaheim.

Simon Despres told the media today that he is symptom-free. He also mentioned changing his number from 24 to 6 out of respect for Ruslan Salei, who died in a terrible plane crash on September 7, 2011, with KHL Team Lokomotiv.

John Gibson, Ryan Kesler, and Sami Vatanen will be flying in this weekend to join the Ducks camp. Each of their respective teams(North America, USA, and Finland) were eliminated from the tournament this past week.
