Stoner Has Surgery; Montour Called Up
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks announced Sami Vatanen is still sick and will not travel with the team to Calgary today. According to Randy Carlyle, Vatanen could still meet up with the team later in Calgary, but it’s not likely he would play. Brandon Montour has been called up as a result and practiced with the Ducks today. He will travel with the team and could make his debut tomorrow. He has played in 25 games with the San Diego Gulls. Montour has recorded 21 total points(7 goals + 14 assists), which ties him for the team lead in points. He also leads the AHL in shots with 113.
It was also revealed today that Clayton Stoner had abdominal surgery on December 21 per Alex Gilchrist, the Director of Media and Communications for the Anaheim Ducks. Stoner is going to be out approximately another 4-6 weeks. He has only appeared in 14 games this season. He has recorded three points(one goal + two assists).
Practice Report
Randy Carlyle changed up the lines today at practice by splitting Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry up. The move appears to be one that could be an attempt to spark more offense, especially from Corey Perry. This season Perry has just seven goals in 36 games. He also has 20 assists, which is close to his total for last season(28), but the problem is he isn’t even on pace to score 20 goals at the rate he is going. The line combinations are not official for tomorrow’s game, but splitting up Getzlaf and Perry might be a necessary move Carlyle can’t refuse.
Here are the forward line combinations.
Nick Ritchie – Ryan Getzlaf – Ondrej Kase
Andrew Cogliano – Ryan Kesler – Jakob Silfverberg
Rickard Rakell – Antoine Vermette – Corey Perry
Joseph Cramarossa – Stefan Noesen / Logan Shaw – Jared Boll
