Forward Korbinian Holzer?

Today at the Ducks practice, John Gibson and Ryan Kesler took maintenance days. Ryan Getzlaf missed his third practice in a row. Getzlaf sustained a lower-body injury in Anaheim’s win against Philadelphia. He also didn’t play in Anaheim’s 2-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings last night. Gibson registered a shutout with a 23 save performance. The Ducks are now 3-1-0 this season without their Captain.

The Ducks will host the Arizona Coyotes tomorrow. Getzlaf will try to skate in the morning to determine his availability for that game. He has been listed as day-to-day. If Getzlaf can’t go, then Randy Carlyle could elect to go with an 11 forward and seven defensemen lineup once again. Carlyle used that lineup configuration against the Vancouver Canucks last week. The Ducks rotated all seven defensemen throughout that game with forwards Getzlaf, Kesler, and Rickard Rakell being double shifted.

Carlyle may go with a similar lineup with a slight tweak. Korbinian Holzer took part in practice today as a forward. He could slide in on the fourth line instead of Jared Boll. Another option is to bring Ryan Garbutt up from San Diego. He has played 27 games with the Ducks and recorded three points(2 G + 1 A) this season. He may be in Carlyle’s doghouse, but many would argue he is a better option than Boll.

Montour Selected To The AHL All-Star Classic

The American Hockey League(AHL) named Brandon Montour to the 2017 Toyota AHL All-Star Classic. The activities will take place on January 29 and 30 at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa. Montour has 21 total points(14 G + 7 A) and 24 penalty minutes in 25 games with the Gulls.

He was recalled by the Ducks and made his NHL debut on December 29 at Calgary. He has played three games with Anaheim, recording zero points and two penalty minutes. He has an on-ice rating of +1.

Team USA Beats Team Canada In the World Junior Championship

Team USA won gold at the World Junior Championship as they edged Team Canada 5-4 in a shootout. Team USA was down two separate times in the game by two goals but they were able to tie it up at four and send the game into overtime. Neither team could score in overtime and the game went to a shootout. Only Anaheim Ducks prospect Troy Terry was able to score in the shootout to help Team USA win the championship. Terry scored three shootout goals against Team Russia in the semifinal to get Team USA to the championship game.
