Ducks Await Sharks or Oilers

The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Calgary Flames 3-1 in Game 4 and completed the sweep in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Ducks will now wait for the outcome of the San Jose Sharks and Edmonton Oilers series. The Oilers won Game 5  by a score of 4-3 in overtime and lead the series 3-2. I can see their series going to a Game 7. Who would you want to see the Ducks play in the second round of the playoffs?

Season Breakdown vs Sharks:

The Duck played the Sharks five times this season earning eight points out of a possible 10 and had a record of 3-0-2. The Ducks first played the Sharks on October 25th, 2016. The Ducks lost 2-1 in overtime. The Sharks outshot the Ducks 36-20 and the Ducks outhit the Sharks 36-11. The second game was played on November 26th, 2016. The Ducks won 3-2. The Ducks outshot the Sharks 26-23 and the Sharks outhit the Ducks 31-26. The third game was played on December 9th, 2016. The Ducks won 3-2. The Ducks outshot the Sharks 32-24 and both had 24 hits apiece. The fourth game was played on December 27th, 2016. The Ducks lost 3-2 in overtime. The Ducks outshot the Sharks 36-25 and outhit them 24-17. The last game was played on March 18th, 2017. The Ducks won 2-1. The Sharks outshot the Ducks 34-27 and outhit them 26-22.

The Ducks and Sharks series were really close as each game was won by only one goal. No more than three goals were scored in a game in the series. The Sharks did not beat the Ducks in regulation this season. The Ducks outshot the Sharks in 4 out of the 5 games played. A player to watch for the Sharks is Brett Burns. He’s a big physical defenseman with the offensive capabilities.

Season Breakdown vs Oilers:

The Ducks played the Oilers 5 times this season earning six points out of a possible 10 and had a record of 2-1-2. The first game was played on November 15th, 2016. The Ducks won 4-1. The Oilers outshot the Ducks shot 35-27 and outhit them 29-28. The second game was played on December 3rd, 2016. The Ducks lost 3-2 in overtime. The Ducks outshot the Oilers 26-23 and outhit them 27-26. The third game was played on January 25th, 2016. The Ducks lost 4-0. The Ducks outshot the Oilers 26-23 and outhit them 41-34. The fourth game was played on March 22nd, 2017.  The Ducks won 4-3. The Ducks outshot the Oilers 34-32 and outhit them 32-26. The last game was played on April 1st, 2017. The Ducks lost 3-2. The Oilers outshot the Ducks 37-18 and outhit them 35-33.

Shooting and hitting were fairly close in each game they played this season. Each team both had a comfortable win but the other 3 games were only decided by one goal. A player to watch is the obvious one of Connor McDavid. He’s a highly skilled player who seems to make everyone around him better.

My Choice:

I want the Ducks to play the best possible team. To be the best you have to beat the best. I think the Oilers would be the easier team to play due to their lack of playoff experience, but I’d like to play the Sharks for the second round. The Sharks will be a big challenge for the Ducks. It would be a great series to play our Northern California rivals. The teams don’t seem to like each other and the fans don’t like each other. The travel time won’t be as bad for the players and the thought of making a road trip the San Jose seems fun. The rivalry would build even more and could possibly be a set up for a future Stadium Series game.

We conducted a recent fan poll on Twitter and by the results, more of you would like to face the Sharks as well. Below are the results.

It’s all a waiting game now. The Sharks and Oilers will play Game 6 tonight. The Oilers have a chance to close out the series and punch their ticket to the second round. I wish each team the best of luck and I can’t wait for the second round to start so the Ducks could continue painting orange Xs on more numbers at Honda Center.

We have added three new shirt designs. Check them out by clicking the photo below or visiting TPNHockey.com!
