Ducks Protection List Revealed

Photo: USA Today

By Michael Walters

Today NHL teams had to submit their protection lists for the expansion draft. As expected the Ducks elected to go with Option A, seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goalie. Here is Anaheim’s list:

Anaheim Ducks protection list (7-3-1 Format):

Forwards (7)

Ryan Getzlaf
Corey Perry
Ryan Kesler
Jakob Silfverberg
Andrew Cogliano
Rickard Rakell
Antoine Vermette

Defensemen (3)

Cam Fowler
Hampus Lindholm
Kevin Bieksa

Goalie (1)

John Gibson

According to CapFriendly.com, the remaining forwards that met the exposure requirements and could have been protected are Jared Boll, Logan Shaw, and Chris Wagner. Manson and Vatanen are the exposed defensemen that could have been protected. Dustin Tokarski is the only goalie besides Gibson, that meets the exposure requirements and could have been protected.

Even though Manson and Vatanen are exposed, it’s been reported that neither will likely be going to Las Vegas. According to multiple reports, general manager Bob Murray is working on a deal with Vegas GM George McPhee. If a deal is reached, then it will likely be announced Wednesday when Vegas will make its selections in the NHL expansion draft public at the NHL awards. It sounds like several teams are working side deals with Vegas in order to prevent certain players from being picked in the expansion draft.

Though it’s not likely, Vegas could also choose from those who were not or could not be protected in the draft. Those players include Patrick Eaves, Nate Thompson, Abbott Spencer, Max Gortz, Andre Petersson, Nick Sorenson, Nic Kerdiles, Sam Carrick, Corey Tropp, Emerson Etem, Clayton Stoner, Nate Guenin, Jeff Schultz, Korbinian Holzer, Jaycob Megna, Jhonas Enroth, Jonathan Bernier, Ryan Faragher, and Matt Hackett. The NHL awards show is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21st at 4:30 PM PT.
