Parros Named Senior Vice President of NHL Player Safety
By Michael Walters
Today George Parros has been named Senior Vice President of Player Safety and will start his duties effective immediately the NHL announced. Current Vice President Stephane Quintal is stepping down to pursue other opportunities but will remain with the Department through the end of the 2017-18 NHL regular season to assist Parros in his new role.
Parros was drafted in 1999 by the Los Angeles Kings. He played nine seasons in the NHL with Anaheim, Colorado, Florida, Los Angeles, and Montreal. Parros won a Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007. He’s known for his mustache and his physical toughness as he accumulated 1,092 career penalty minutes and more than 150 fighting majors in 474 NHL games.
Parros said he plans to be harder in two areas of the game: Slashing and non-hockey plays where he feels players are purposely trying to injure. Parros was never fined or suspended during his career. He says that this proves he knows where to draw the line and makes him think he will be able to determine whether a player crosses the line or not in the future.
