Injury Updates: Some Inch Closer To Playing

Photo: USA Today

By Michael Walters

For the Anaheim Ducks and their fans, it’s been a nerve-racking start to the season as each day there seems to be another injury occurring. Last night at the Face-off Fest at Honda Center it was announced that Corey Perry had taken a puck to the face(mouth to be specific) in practice earlier and was unable to participate in the event. The good news is Perry did practice today and should hopefully be able to play tomorrow against Montreal.

Two other players that were absent from Face-off Fest were Ryan Getzlaf and Patrick Eaves. According to head coach Randy Carlyle, both of them are highly doubtful to play tomorrow. Both are dealing with lower-body injuries. Getzlaf has played in two games recording two assists. Eaves has also played in just two games. He has scored one goal.

Some Players Could Return Soon

The Ducks do look to get some of their players back soon, which includes Hampus Lindholm, Sami Vatanen, Ondrej Kase, and Ryan Miller.

Lindholm has a good chance to play tomorrow. He said he felt ready about a month ago, but didn’t want to risk not being fully recovered. He practiced two days in a row on the second power-play unit with Brandon Montour. Vatanen is also getting closer to playing, but it doesn’t seem like he will be ready tomorrow. It may be more likely he returns on the upcoming road trip. Ryan Miller also practiced this week. He sustained a wrist injury in the preseason that has kept him out since then. Based on Carlyle’s comments today it appears that two of three players could be in for tomorrow’s game.

Ondrej Kase(head) was seen practicing after being knocked out of the game against Calgary. Since Nic Kerdiles was sent down to San Diego, there is a good chance Kase plays tomorrow.

Kesler Update

Ryan Kesler was one of the few injured Ducks to be present at the Face-off Fest last night. He was seen still visibly limping from his hip surgery he had during the summer. The hope is he returns by the end of the December. With him out the Ducks are ranked 9th in the league in face-off winning percentage at 52.3%. The Ducks are also 10th in the league on the penalty kill at 82.8%.
