Ducks, Pucks, and Big Bird?
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks took the ice today after their road trip in which they won three out of four of their games.
Ryan Getzlaf was not on the ice today as it was announced by the Anaheim Ducks that he was placed on the injured reserve(IR) list due to swelling in his face. He won’t play this week and will be reevaluated next Monday. He took a puck to his face in Anaheim’s last game against Carolina. Getzlaf was able to return to the ice, but only for a short time before heading to the locker room for good.
A theme for today at practice was players getting hit with pucks, unfortunately. John Gibson took a shot to his “private parts” according to head coach Randy Carlyle. There was no indication that he would miss any time. Nick Ritchie was also hit by a puck early in the day and was not on the ice for the rest of practice. His status is unknown for Wednesday’s game.
Kevin Bieksa was on the ice today at practice and is considered day-to-day. The Ducks did recall Kalle Kossila today likely as a result of Getzlaf being placed on the IR. Bieksa is still on the IR and Patrick Eaves is on the long-term injured reserve list.
Another player still on the IR list is Ryan Kesler and he made a special appearance at practice today. He showed up in a Big Bird costume and took a brief skate at Honda Center. Click here to watch the video: Kesler Dominates Halloween
