Game 16: Miller To Start Against Ex-Teammates
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks(6-6-3) continue their homestand against the Vancouver Canucks(8-5-2). The game starts at 7:00 PM PT and will be on Prime Ticket locally and AM 830. It’s military appreciation night at Honda Center.
Anaheim Outlook:
The Ducks have been on a losing streak having lost their last four games. They did earn a point in each of their last two games but have sustained more injuries. The Ducks will be without Jared Boll, John Gibson, and Ondrej Kase tonight. All three players were injured in the Ducks last game against the Kings. Jared Boll was placed on the injury reserve list with a lower-body injury. Kase was also placed on the injury reserve list with an upper-body injury. Kevin Roy was called up yesterday and will likely play tonight. The Ducks called up Reto Berra and confirmed that Ryan Miller would start against one of his old teams in the Vancouver Canucks where he played for the last three seasons. Anaheim also sent Kalle Kossila down to San Diego yesterday, but recalled him today.
Keys To The Game
The Ducks played a solid two periods against Los Angeles, but couldn’t quite finish them off in the third. If Anaheim can get off to more great starts, then the points will come. Anaheim needs to continue working on secondary scoring chances and the power play. Of course, it’s easier said than done when the team is missing four of their top players who produce offensively for the team.
Anaheim’s Projected Lineup:
Offense
Nick Ritchie – Rickard Rakell – Corey Perry
Andrew Cogliano – Derek Grant – Jakob Silfverberg
Kalle Kossila – Antoine Vermette – Chris Wagner
Logan Shaw – Dennis Rasmussen – Kevin Roy
Defense
Hampus Lindholm – Josh Manson
Francois Beauchemin– Brandon Montour
Sami Vatanen – Kevin Bieksa
In Net
Ryan Miller 1-0-2, GAA 2.13, SV% .946 (Confirmed)
Vancouver Outlook:
The Canucks enter tonight’s game in third place in the Pacific Division with 18 points, behind Los Angeles and Vegas. Derek Dorsett leads the team with seven goals, followed by Bo Horvat, who has six goals. Brock Boeser and Thomas Vanek each have five goals.
Keys To The Game
The Canucks are going to look to stay out of the penalty box as they have an underwhelming penalty killing unit operating at 79.6% efficiency. Their power play is average at 16.4% efficiency. The magic number for Vancouver is three goals. They have scored three goals in eight of their 15 games going 7-1-0 in those contests.
Vancouver’s Projected Lineup:
Offense
Sven Baertschi – Bo Horvat – Brock Boeser
Daniel Sedin – Henrik Sedin – Jake Virtanen
Thomas Vanek – Alexander Burmistrov – Sam Gagner
Brendan Gaunce – Brandon Sutter – Derek Dorsett
Defense
Ben Hutton – Chris Tanev
Derrick Pouliot – Erik Gudbranson
Michael Del Zotto – Alex Biega
In Net
Jacob Markstrom, 5-4-0, GAA 2.37, SV% .917 (Confirmed)
