VIDEO: Anaheim Bounces Boston

The Ducks looked to rebound in this game after losing to Tampa Bay on Sunday Night. John Gibson was in net for Anaheim facing Tuukka Rask for Boston. Hampus Lindholm did not play due to a lower-body injury. Jaycob Megna drew in as a result. Dennis Rasmussen was also a scratch, so defenseman Korbinan Holzer played as a forward in his place.

First Period

Anaheim got on the board first as Kevin Roy scored his first NHL goal. It was a bit of an unusual goal as Nick Ritchie tried to take a shot and the puck was deflected straight up in the air. The puck came down into the slot and Roy hit the bouncing puck and shot it just Tuukka Rask at the far post. Ducks took a 1-0 lead to the locker room.

Second Period

Boston would tie the game on a goal Danton Heinen, as he broke away from the Anaheim defense, got Gibson down, and was able to backhand it over him into the net. The Ducks responded with another fortunate bounce as Josh Manson scored on a delayed penalty to give the Ducks the lead back at 2-1. Anaheim tried to score on the delayed penalty and failed initially, but Manson got the puck throwing it at the net off a Boston defenseman’s skate and in for the goal. Ritchie scored in the final minute of the period and the Ducks took a 3-1 advantage into the third period.

Third Period

Anaheim would extend the lead when Alex Grant deflected a Corey Perry shot into the net. The goal was originally given to Perry, but replay showed that Grant was made contact with the puck just before it went in. Noel Accairi added a late goal for Boston, but it wasn’t enough as Anaheim won 4-2.

Analysis

The final result for Anaheim looked good from the standpoint of the scoreboard, but this game for Anaheim was a little shaky at times. The Ducks got the first goal, but after that Boston carried the play. In the second period, Anaheim didn’t register a shot on goal until over halfway through the period. The Ducks did get some bounces and timely goals in order to put Boston away. The Ducks gave up a whopping 42 shots to Boston and Gibson was again a huge reason why the Ducks prevailed.

Stats/Team Notes

Antoine Vermette played in his 1000th NHL game.

Kevin Roy scored his first NHL goal joining Kalle Kossila and Alex Grant, who also did so earlier this season.

The Ducks haven’t lost in regulation when scoring first.
