Anaheim Outlook:
The Anaheim Ducks three-game winning streak was snapped on Wednesday night as they lost 4-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Ducks had built a 2-0 lead, but couldn’t hold on. Anaheim continues to play without several key players. Ryan Miller has been activated off the IR and Reto Berra has been reassigned to San Diego. Patrick Eaves has been doing off-ice workouts, but the timetable for his return is still unknown. The Ducks only remain four points out of first place in the jam-packed Pacific Division. The Ducks did place Jaycob Megna on waivers yesterday and he cleared them this morning.
Keys To The Game
The Ducks are still struggling to stop opponents shots on net. They gave up 49 when they played Vegas on Wednesday. There has been plenty of commentary on how the Anaheim defense hasn’t been helping out their goaltenders but the lack of a sustained forecheck is also to blame. The Ducks are the second worst team in terms of puck possession. Anaheim needs to improve on their offensive zone time, but it’s difficult when they are missing three big players in Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, and Patrick Eaves.
Anaheim’s Projected Lineup:
Offense
Rickard Rakell – Derek Grant – Corey Perry
Andrew Cogliano – Chris Wagner – Jakob Silfverberg
Nick Ritchie – Antoine Vermette – Kevin Roy
Michael Liambas – Dennis Rasmussen – Logan Shaw
Defense
Hampus Lindholm – Josh Manson
Cam Fowler – Brandon Montour
Sami Vatanen – Kevin Bieksa
In Net
John Gibson 7-7-1, GAA 2.86, SV% .924 (Unconfirmed)
Winnipeg Outlook:
The Jets have been on a roll lately going 7-2-1 in their last ten games and they are currently four points behind the Central Division leading St. Louis Blues. The Jets are coming off a 2-1 win over Los Angeles on Wednesday. Patrik Laine and Mark Scheifele currently lead the team with 11 goals each.
Keys To The Game
The Jets are the 8th leading scoring team in the NHL averaging 3.24 goals per game. Like Anaheim, the Jets do give up a large amount of shot against as their opponents have been averaging 33.8 shot per game. The Ducks give up the most shots at 36.7 per game so this contest could be won by the team that peppers the other team’s goalie the most.
Winnipeg’s Projected Lineup:
Offense
Kyle Connor – Mark Scheifele – Blake Wheeler
Nikolaj Ehlers – Bryan Little – Patrik Laine
Andrew Copp – Adam Lowry – Brandon Tanev
Mathieu Perreault – Matt Hendricks – Joel Armia
Defense
Josh Morrissey – Jacob Trouba
Ben Chiarot – Dustin Byfuglien
Dmitry Kulikov – Tyler Myers
In Net
Connor Hellebuyck, 11-2-2, GAA 2.45, SV% .925 (Confirmed)
