Ducks Place Rasmussen On Unconditional Waivers
By Michael Walters
According to multiple reports, the Anaheim Ducks placed Dennis Rasmussen on unconditional waivers today.
When a player is placed on unconditional waivers it usually results in a mutual agreement to the termination of their contract. The player usually prefers to go to Europe than play in the AHL. According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, Rasmussen’s first preference is to remain in the NHL if claimed on waivers by another team. If he is not claimed then he would rather go home and play in Sweden as opposed to being in the AHL.
According to Swedish media SportExpressen, Rasmussen will likely play for the SHL’s Vaxjo Lakers. The Lakers are currently in first place and have a solid chance at winning the Championship this season. The period in which Rasmussen could transfer to Sweden closes before the NHL trade deadline, so now would be a good time to make the move.
Rasmussen is currently being paid $725,000 this season with Anaheim and would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He appeared in 27 games with Anaheim this season earning four total points(1 goal + 3 assists) with a +4 on-ice rating. He played in 17 games in San Diego registering 10 points(4 goals + 6 assists) and a -1 on-ice rating.
