VIDEO: Ducks Rally To Beat Blackhawks

By Michael Walters

The Anaheim Ducks continued their road trip against the Chicago Blackhawks. John Gibson was in net for Anaheim and Anton Forsberg went for Chicago.

First Period

The opening frame was penalty-filled and full of sloppy play. Both teams had multiple power play chances, but neither could convert.

Second Period

Cam Fowler was called for a penalty early in the period and Chicago cashed in when Duncan Keith scored his first goal of the season. Later in the period, Brandon Saad scored and Anaheim looked in trouble down 2-0. Less than a minute though Nick Ritchie roofed the puck to the top right corner to pull Anaheim within one. A few minutes later Ondrej Kase got a breakaway chance and he went to the backhand for the game-tying score. The lead Chicago had built vanished in less than three minutes of play. The teams headed to the third period tied up at two.

Third Period

The Ducks would take the lead for good when Kase found Adam Henrique in front of the Chicago net. Henrique was able to backhand the puck past Forsberg to get Anaheim the 3-2 lead. The Ducks then held on to the lead and were able to pull out a 3-2 come from behind win.

Analysis

The Ducks third line(AKA the Hard Hat line) did all the damage in this game. Ritchie, Kase, and Henrique each scored a goal in that order to help Anaheim rally from a 2-0 deficit. Henrique now has 14 goals in 34 games with Anaheim and leads the league with six game-winning goals during that time span. Marcus Pettersson made his NHL debut and he didn’t disappoint. He played just over 13 minutes, had two block shots, a +2 on-ice rating, and had the highest puck possession rating of all Ducks defensemen.
