VIDEO: Ducks Downed 2-1 In Dallas

Photo: USA Today

By Michael Walters

The Anaheim Ducks faced the Dallas Stars to close out a short two-game road trip. Ryan Miller was in net against Kari Lehtonen.

First Period

The Ducks got an early power play just 47 seconds in as Tyler Pitlick was called for tripping, but Anaheim was unable to convert. Both teams had chances and no one was able to score until late in the period. Ryan Getzlaf received a pass from Corey Perry and Getzlaf was able to shoot the puck over the shoulder of Lehtonen into the top corner of the net. Ducks led 1-0 after the first period.

Second Period

Dallas came out strong and applied pressure throughout the entire second period. The Stars outshot the Ducks 17-5 and Miller had to make numerous saves to keep it a 1-0 game in favor of Anaheim. Dallas hit the post with just over three minutes to go and the puck hit Miller from behind, but he was able to keep it from going in. The Ducks had one power play in the middle frame, but they didn’t convert.

Third Period

The Ducks got into penalty trouble in the final frame. First Corey Perry was called for closing his hand over the puck. Devin Shore would score on the power play to tie the game. Later in the period, Marcus Pettersson took a penalty for holding and Dallas would cash in on that power play as well. The Ducks would pull Miller for the extra attacker and even received a power play with 22 seconds left in the game, but the Ducks couldn’t get the tying score.

Analysis

The Ducks started out strong grabbing a 1-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes but then appeared to run out of steam. Dallas carried a majority of the play in the second period and cashed in on two power plays in the third period. There was a scary moment when Josh Manson landed catching a skate near his face. He appeared okay as he remained in the game.
