The Anaheim Ducks returned home to face the St. Louis Blues. John Gibson was in net against Jake Allen.

First Period

There were no penalties in the opening frame. St. Louis had the better scoring chances in the first period and finally broke through when Robert Bortuzzo was able to shoot the puck between Gibson’s blocker and leg pad. The Blues led 1-0 after the first twenty minutes.

Second Period

Just three minutes into the middle frame, the Blues extended their lead when Ivan Barbashev put one behind Gibson. The Ducks respond shortly after when Ryan Getzlaf found Corey Perry at the side of the net for a tap-in goal. The Blues did regain their two-goal lead when Vladimir Sobotka was able to slide the puck under a sprawled out Gibson. Blues led 3-1 after two periods.

Third Period

The Ducks were able to pull with one again when Derek Grant redirected a Chris Kelly shot past Allen. The Blues, however, would add another goal by Patrik Berglund. The Ducks pulled Gibson for the extra attacker late in the period but weren’t able to rally. Blues won 4-2.

Analysis

The Ducks didn’t play a solid game and made some mistakes that proved costly as Anaheim lost their third game in a row. The Ducks have fallen out of playoff spot despite being tied with Colorado for 80 points. The Avalanche own the tiebreaker between the two teams.
