VIDEO: Ducks Blank Canucks
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks continued their homestand against the Vancouver Canucks. John Gibson was in net against Jacob Markstrom.
First Period
The Ducks scored early in this contest as Jason Chimera found Brandon Montour in front of the net. Montour took the pass and shot it between two Vancouver defenders and past Markstrom. Shortly after the Ducks were awarded a four-minute power play, but they did not convert on it. The Ducks outshot the Canucks 12-9 and held a 1-0 advantage.
Second Period
The teams traded power plays to start the middle frame, but neither team scored. The Ducks added to their lead in this period, when Chris Kelly stole a puck and found Chimera alone in the slot. Chimera shot it over Markstrom’s shoulder for his first goal as a member of the Anaheim Ducks. Ducks outshot the Canucks 14-12 in the period and held a 2-0 lead.
Third Period
In this period there were a few penalties on Vancouver and one on Anaheim, but the score remained still 2-0. Vancouver did get a penalty late in the game and Montour would convert on the power play for his second goal of the game. Daniel Sedin was frustrated and said some things to the officials, which prompted an early exit for him as he received a game misconduct. The Ducks won 3-0.
Analysis
This was a better performance for Anaheim compared to their past couple of games. Montour got going in this game with two goals, his last score came on November 19th against Florida. The fourth line provided the offense in this game with Chimera getting his first assist and goal as a Duck. Anaheim also converted on the power play which had been extremely cold in the past week.
