Ducks Sign Andrej Sustr
By Michael Walters
Today the Anaheim Ducks announced that defenseman Erik Karls… Andrej Sustr would be joining the team.
The Erik Karlsson sweepstakes are still alive and well. Instead, the Ducks picked up former Tampa Bay defenseman Andrej Sustr by signing him to a one-way deal worth $1.3 million. Sustr has played his entire NHL career with the Lightning dating back to the 2012-13 season. He has played in 310 NHL games recording 63 total points(10 goals + 53 assists).
This is another depth signing as General Manager Bob Murray has added Luke Schenn and now Sustr into the mix as options for the third defensive pairing. With the departure of Kevin Bieksa and Francois Beauchemin, Schenn and Sustr will likely be their replacements. The Ducks still also have Korbinian Holzer, Jacob Larsson, Marcus Pettersson, and Andy Welinski(RFA yet to be re-signed) as options.

Sustr has a large frame at 6’7″ and 220 lbs. He is more of a stay at home type of defensemen, with good positioning, and shoots with his right hand. He doesn’t have much offensive upside and can have issues turning over the puck. He is a big body but his intensity doesn’t match his size. Sustr is big and soft like a meatball, so he definitely fits into Murray’s free agency spaghetti strategy.
