VIDEO: Ducks Lose 5-3 To The Stars

The Anaheim Ducks(3-0-1) traveled to Dallas to face the Stars(2-1-0). John Gibson went in net against former Duck Anton Khudobin.

First Period

The Dallas Stars came out strong to start the period, but Gibson was equal to the task. The Stars came close to taking the lead but hit the post in the opening minutes of the game. The Ducks would score first as the birthday boy Jakob Silfverberg would just throw a puck on net and it would go over Khudobin’s shoulder. Maxime Comtois provided a screen, which blocked enough of Khudobin’s view to allow the puck through. Kiefer Sherwood would then extend the Ducks lead to 2-0 when he tipped a point shot by Josh Manson. The goal was Sherwood’s first NHL tally. Anaheim lead 2-0 after one period.

Second Period

The Stars came out even stronger in the middle frame and had an early power play, but the Ducks were able to kill it off. The Ducks would make it a 3-0 game when Adam Henrique would score on the power play. Dallas would answer when they got a power play of their own. Radulov would bank a shot off of Gibson’s mask to make it a 3-1 contest. Dallas would then go on a roll and score the next three goals. Connor Carrick, Jamie Benn, and John Klingberg would all score goals to flip the script and give the Stars a 4-3 lead after two periods.

Third Period

Ryan Miller came in to start in net for Gibson. The Ducks outshot the Stars 11-7 in the final frame, but couldn’t tie the game. They pulled Miller with just over two minutes to go, but Dallas would get an empty net goal and win 5-3.

Analysis

The Ducks had a great start to the game and built a 2-0 lead. To start the second period they were able to go up 3-0, but Dallas got a power play goal and went on a role. They scored three goals in just three minutes and all of the sudden the game was tied at three. There were some calls or non-calls that went against Anaheim, but the bottom line is they didn’t show up in the second period being outshot 30-4. The Ducks are going to have to rebound quickly as they play the St. Louis Blues tomorrow night.
