VIDEO: Ducks Rally Past The Blues

The Ducks looked to earn their 4th win against the Blues after a game that slipped through their fingers last night in Dallas.  This was Anaheim’s first regulation loss of the season.  They have been playing well, especially considering how young their roster currently is.  However, they have had a difficult time connecting their passes and maintaining momentum. They need to clean up their passing game if they intend on becoming a consistent threat.

Period 1

Ryan Miller got his first start of the season after relieving John Gibson in the 3rd period last night in Dallas.  He was off to a great start tonight as he stopped all 10 shot attempts by the Blues.  After the loss last night the Ducks were reminded that they needed to play aggressively in the crease on both ends and they did just that.  With a minute and thirty-nine seconds remaining in the first, rookie Max Comtois sent the puck to Jacob Silfervberg for a beautiful breakaway goal to put Anaheim up 1-0.

Period 2

The Ducks played a great second period despite a Blues goal coming eleven minutes and forty-nine seconds in.  Max Comtois couldn’t clear the puck and Joel Edmundson wound up with it at the blue line with no pressure from any of Anaheim’s defense.  Edmundson fired the puck and Alexander Steen got a piece that sent it past Miller.  About five minutes later Tyler Bozak scored his 1st goal of the season on a Blues power play with four minutes and eight seconds left of the period.  This was the third time in the game the Ducks found themselves short-handed.  Anaheim left the second period down 2-1 after leading the first.

Period 3

This period was as crucial as ever if the Ducks wanted to right the wrongs they made the night before.  They certainly came out understanding this and played very aggressive and smart.  Seven minutes and sixteen seconds into the period Josh Manson fired one from the blue line that Ben Street redirected for his second goal of not only this season but his career.  With one second left of their second power play and just a little over five minutes left of the game, Kesler sent the puck into the crease and Andrew Cogliano jammed it through the pads of Chad Johnson.  This would be the final goal of the game and the Ducks earned their forth win of the season.  Six games into the season the Anaheim Ducks lead the Pacific Division and are in third place in the league.

Analysis

The Ducks were able to rebound from their loss the night before against the Dallas Stars. Anaheim found themselves in the same position trailing by one goal heading into the third period for the second consecutive night. This time the Ducks were able to rally on goals by Street and Cogliano to edge the Blues 3-2. The Ducks got the win despite only winning 35% of their face-offs.

Team Stats/News

Carter Rowney did not play due to an upper-body injury from the game in Dallas. Joseph Blandisi was recalled as a result.

Jakob Silfverberg scored his team-leading third goal of the season. He did leave the game in the third period with an upper-body injury.

Miller is three wins away from tying John Vanbiesbrouck (374) for the all-time lead among U.S.-born goaltenders in wins.
