VIDEO: Miller Lifts Ducks Past Bolts
By Michael Walters
The Tampa Bay Lightning got an early power play when Josh Manson was called for interference. The Ducks were able to kill off the penalty. Throughout the period the teams exchanged chances, but no scoring occurred. There were a few instances were both goalies were crashed into and had to hold their own between the pipes. Tampa Bay held a 10-9 shot advantage.
Early in the period, Brayden Point had a great chance for the Lightning as he blew by the Ducks defense, but Miller made the save to keep the game scoreless. Later in the period, Josh Manson would strike first for Anaheim. Adam Henrique had the puck at the side of the net and tried to jam it in, but he was denied. The puck came out in front to Manson, who then shot it over Domingue’s glove for the score. Point would score towards the end of the period as Nikita Kucherov would make a pass from behind the net to Point in the slot for an easy score. The teams headed to the third period tied 1-1.
The Ducks would get a power play early in the period and they would convert to take a 2-1 lead. A point shot from Pontus Aberg would go high, hitting the glass and then bounce back over the net in front. Nick Ritchie hit the puck out of mid-air into the net for the score. Less than a minute later, Carter Rowney would score on a backhand shot and the Ducks lead 3-1. The Lightning would get a few power play chances and pulled their goalie in the final moments of the game, but the Ducks were able to keep them from scoring and won 3-1.
After a disappointing performance in Nashville, the Ducks were able to rebound and get a victory against one of the league’s best teams. Miller played outstanding stopping 34 of 35 shots on goal in this contest. Anaheim was able to score on the power play while holding Tampa’s power play at bay. The Ducks will be right back at it tomorrow against the Florida Panthers.
Carter Rowney was activated off the IR prior to the game and scored a goal in this contest.
