Getzlaf Could Join Gibson At The All-Star Game

The NHL announced the roster for the NHL All-Star game and Anaheim Ducks goaltender, John Gibson was selected to represent the Ducks in the Pacific Division. This will be the second time Gibson will have the honor to participate in the All-Star game.

Gibson has played in 34 games this season earning 15 wins, 11 losses, and six overtime losses. He has a GAA of 2.59 and a .924 save percentage; also, has earned one shutout. Gibson ranks fifth in the NHL for his save percentage and is tied for seventh overall in wins in the NHL.

His teammates were excited to see him get the much-deserved honor. Rickard Rakell said it’s his time to shine. Josh Manson congratulated him on representing the Ducks. Hampus Lindholm and Adam Henrique are excited for him to “put on a show.” Check out our Facebook page to see their full posts.

Gibson has played lights out for the Ducks this season. He has stolen games and kept Anaheim above water when the rest of the team didn’t see to show up. The Ducks have been outshot in most of their games. The Ducks are hanging around a playoff (wildcard) spot, with 45 points, six points from third place in the Pacific. It’s not an ideal spot but considering how poorly the Ducks have played in some games, it is pretty good. The majority of that is Gibson’s doing.

The NHL allowed fans to vote in the Captains and in partnership with Adidas Hockey will also let fans vote in one last player from a list of players in each division.

Ducks captain, Ryan Getzlaf is one of the eight guys listed that can be voted in by the fans. Getzlaf has played in 35 games this season scoring 29 points (9 goals and 20 assists). He leads the Ducks in points, assists and ranks fourth on the team in goals.

Getzlaf has been shooting the puck a little more this season and it has given him nine goals. Only two less than he scored last season in 56 games. He is also a little above 55% in the face-off circle. He has had some big games for the Ducks this season and has stepped up when needed on and off the ice. Obviously, Edmonton Oilers fans will disagree and would like to vote in Leon Draisaitl or Vancouver Canucks will feel that Brock Boeser deserves it more. It’s up to us, the fans. So let’s send our captain to the All-Star game.

The All-Star game will be on the weekend of Jan. 25-26, in San Jose. The Skills competition will be held on the 25th and game will be on the 26th. The Last Men In voting opens at 9 AM PT today and closes at 8:59 PM PT on Jan. 10.
