Miller To Return Soon
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks get set to take on the Vancouver Canucks tomorrow as they return home from their disastrous 5-game road trip. The Ducks lost all five games and were outscored 29-7 plummeting them to last place in the Pacific Division and Western Conference.
General Manager Bob Murray relieved Randy Carlyle of his coaching duties this past Sunday and will behind the bench Wednesday. The questions is who will be in net?
Today at practice Ryan Miller was a full participant and looked good throughout the morning. It appears he is very close to returning. John Gibson(upper-body) didn’t practice today and will likely not start tomorrow. It sounds like Chad Johnson or Kevin Boyle could get the start tomorrow unless Miller is ready to go.
Gibson has been frustrated several times this year and it’s not a surprise as he has been on an island for many of the games this season. Regardless who is net tomorrow it wouldn’t hurt the Ducks to rest Gibson for some time. He has started in 45 of the Ducks 56 games this season. In what many have deemed a “lost season” maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to let some of the other goalies start between the pipes. Murray hasn’t committed as to who will start tomorrow.
Additionally, Bob Murray has decided that the morning skates will no longer be mandatory for the rest of the season per the OC Register’s Elliott Teaford. The ice will be available for the players to skate on game day, but attendance will be voluntary for the remainder of the season. Several teams engage in this practice already so it will be interesting to see how it plays out for the Anaheim players.
