VIDEO: Canucks Get Boyled
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks took on the Vancouver Canucks with Bob Murray behind the bench in his first game as head coach. Kevin Boyle got the start as John Gibson and Chad Johnson were both placed on the IR.
First Period
The Ducks came out with a decent start and grabbed the lead on a goal by Jakob Silfverberg. Shortly after tempers flared as Ryan Kesler and Josh Leivo dropped the gloves. Later on, Corey Perry and Erik Gudbranson got into it and both received roughing penalties. The Ducks led 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes.
Second Period
To open the period Ryan Getzlaf and Gudbranson fought and both received five minutes for fighting. The Ducks had a couple of power plays in the period, but couldn’t do much with them. The shots in the period were 8-6 in favor of the Canucks, but the Ducks still led 1-0.
Third Period
The Canucks got an early power play to start the period, but couldn’t convert. Later on the Ducks got a power play and again didn’t score. Vancouver pulled their goalie in the final moments of the game, but the Ducks were able to hold on for the 1-0 victory.
Analysis
The Ducks came to play, especially the big three(Getzlaf, Kesler, & Perry). Kesler dropped the gloves early in the game and then Getzlaf followed that up with his own scrap. Perry was also his old irritating self as he engaged the Canucks physically. Kevin Boyle shined in his first career start with a shutout. When the Canucks pressured he pushed back making all 35 saves and only needed one goal for the victory.
Team News
The Ducks did recall Troy Terry today. Adam Cracknell was reassigned to San Diego.
It appears Boyle could get the start again tomorrow as Miller isn’t 100% according to the Athletic’s Eric Stephens.
Kevin Roy was also present at the Ducks practice today.
