Anaheim Outlook

With 14 games remaining and sitting in fifth-to-last place in the league, the Anaheim Ducks are beyond repair at this point. They are on the verge of missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2011-12 season when 41-year-old Teemu Selanne led the team in scoring with 66 points. Let’s be honest, when the Ducks won three of their first four games after the departure of Randy Carlyle, some people went berserk. Which in the midst of one of the worst seasons in recent memory, it is refreshing to have some glimmer of hope from time to time. In Anaheim’s 5-4 loss to St. Louis on Wednesday, defenseman Jaycob Megna notched his first career NHL goal on a wrister from the high slot. Megna, a seventh-round draft pick by the Anaheim Ducks in 2012, will become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Injury Updates:

Brendan Guhle was knocked out of last night’s contest. He is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Derek Grant(upper-body) is not expected to play tonight.

Devin Shore has missed the last two games after suffering a hyperextended knee against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday and is considered to be day-to-day.

Roster Moves:

Kevin Roy and Sam Steel were reassigned to San Diego.

Projected Lineup

Montreal Outlook

The game against the Anaheim Ducks will wrap up the once dreaded California road trip for the Montreal Canadiens on Friday. Despite outshooting the San Jose Sharks 39-24, the Canadiens lost 5-2 as the offense could not solve goaltender Martin Jones as he stopped 37 shots on Thursday night. It marked the eleventh time this season that Jones recorded 30+ saves in a game.

In his first season as a Canadien, forward Max Domi leads the team in assists (37) and points (59). While much of the scoring has been coming from Brendan Gallagher, who has reached the 30-goal club for the second consecutive season.
