Anaheim Arena Management To Operate Pechanga Arena
By Michael Walters
The City of San Diego has announced that the Anaheim Arena Management, owned by the Samuelis, will be the new management and venue operator for Pechanga Arena San Diego beginning June 1, 2020. Anaheim Arena Management currently operates the Honda Center and is further developing the land around the arena.
“From the outset of this process, our goal was to improve the experience for the arena’s users and guests, enhance the volume and quality of programming and increase revenue for San Diego taxpayers,” said Anaheim Arena Management President/CEO Tim Ryan. “We are excited that the review panel agreed with this vision and selected our bid. We look forward to working collaboratively with the city staff to finalize an agreement that will achieve all of this plus deliver more value for the City of San Diego and its residents. The next steps will be negotiating the lease agreement with the City, which will then go to the City Council for approval.”
This deal gives the Samuelis the ability to promote, develop, and management both arenas in Anaheim and San Diego. The Samuelis have already been acquiring land around the Honda Center and have long term development ideas as part of the Platinum Triangle Vision. The Anaheim Arena Management currently has operating rights in Anaheim until 2048. The terms of this deal involving the Pechanga Arena have not been revealed yet.
