Kase-Faulk Trade Not Likely To Happen
By Michael Walters
A little more than a week ago there were reports that the Anaheim Ducks and Carolina Hurricanes may make a trade involving Justin Faulk and Ondrej Kase.
According to SportsNet’s Elliotte Friedman, the trade is very likely not going to happen now. In Elliotte’s recent 31 Thoughts article, Faulk’s agent Brian Bartlett stated his client “has not demanded a trade and does not want to be traded. He’s like any other player in the league right now, focusing on his team. Ninety-nine percent of the time, these don’t get out into the public. Unfortunately, this one did.” Barlett hasn’t completely ruled out a trade with Anaheim saying “you never know what can happen”, but it seems less likely to happen as time progresses.
Bartlett would not elaborate on negotiations with either team at this time. Faulk also declined an interview request this past weekend by Elliotte.

Elliotte was the first to break the news of a possible trade back on Septemeber 9th between the two teams involving Justin Faulk. Shortly after Luke DeCock of the News & Observer added that Ondrej Kase would be involved in the deal. More reports continued to follow confirming trade talks between the two teams and that at least Faulk and Kase would be parts of the deal.
Faulk is currently in the final year of his contract with Carolina and has a salary of $6 million this season. It appears the Ducks were looking to give him an extension in the range of $6.5 to $7 million if a trade was made. Regardless if an extension would have been involved, Faulk would still have to approve the trade because of his modified no-trade clause.
The Ducks General Manager Bob Murray hasn’t denied his intention of wanting to bring Faulk to Anaheim or another right-shot defenseman according to the Athletic’s Eric Stephens. The concerning issue for Murray is when Kase or any player’s name is being mentioned publicly in trade rumors. It’s not known exactly who leaked the possible trade information, but Murray has a feeling it came from within the Carolina organization. Murray isn’t a fan of a player getting the news that he has been traded before Murray, himself, has had a chance to talk to them.
It appears a trade bringing Faulk to Anaheim is not likely in the cards anymore. So, for now, the Anaheim faithful can put down their pitchforks as Ondrej Kase is still a member of the Ducks.
