Game 3: Ducks Visit Detroit

Anaheim Outlook

The Anaheim Ducks won their first two games under Dallas Eakins beating Arizona 2-1 and San Jose 3-1.

The Ducks got off to a slow start in the season opener against Arizona but were able to pull out the one-goal victory over the Coyotes. In the second game, the Ducks looked stronger and could have beaten the Sharks by a wider margin. The undefeated Ducks will start their first road trip against the undefeated Red Wings.

Anaheim had looked better during even-strength play, but need to work on their special teams play. The Ducks are still looking for their first power-play goal. Coach Eakins also wants the team to tighten up on taking needless penalties.

Injury/Roster Updates:

Sam Steel (mid-body injury) was placed on the IR. He is with the team on the road trip per the Athletic’s Eric Stephens. There is a chance he is activated on the road trip to play in the upcoming games after today.

Max Comtois was recalled from San Diego, but it doesn’t appear like he will play tonight per Coach Eakins.

Ducks signed Bo Groulx to a three-year entry-level contract.

Detroit Outlook

The Detroit Red Wings have also won their first two games of the season.

Detroit the season on the road against Nashville and was able to get an early 2-0 jump on the Predators. Nashville did battle back to tie the game on two separate occasions. Eventually, Detroit pulled away in the third period winning 5-3. Tyler Bertuzzi led the way with four points in the contest, two goals, and two assists.

The Red Wings then had their home opener against the Dallas Stars, who were without Corey Perry as he is dealing with a broken foot. In this game, it was Dallas who got out to a 2-0 lead, but Detroit was able to battle back to win 4-3. Anthony Mantha single-handedly won the game for the Red Wings as he scored all four goals.

The game tonight could be a high scoring affair as Detroit has scored nine goals in just two games and they have also given up six against.

Injury/Roster Updates:

Trevor Daley suffered a lower-body injury in the game against Dallas and was placed on the IR.

Jonathan Ericsson(undisclosed) and Frans Nielsen(lower body) are also all on the IR.

Andreas Athanasiou was activated off the IR and will play tonight per Head Coach Jeff Blashill.

Evgeny Svechnikov and Alex Biega, were recalled.

Ryan Kuffner and Oliwer Kaski were reassigned to the AHL.
