VIDEO: Ducks Come Up Short In Winnipeg
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks hit the road to take on the Winnipeg Jets. John Gibson was in net against Connor Hellebuyck.
The Jets started the scoring with a goal by Mark Scheifele, who would beat Gibson just inside the post. The Ducks would answer back in less than a minute as Rickard Rakell would find Jakob Silfverberg at the side of the net. Silfverberg shot the puck just under the crossbar for his team leading 11th goal of the season. During the opening frame, Ryan Getzlaf dropped the gloves with Nikolaj Ehlers.
In the second period, both teams battled it out. The Ducks made a push at the beginning of the period, but couldn’t score. The Jets responded with a push of their own, but couldn’t light the lamp either. Late in the period, the Jets would regain the lead on a goal by Adam Lowry.
The Ducks would tie of the game in the third period by a goal that was credited to Devin Shore. There was a mad scramble in front of the Winnipeg net and Shore would try to shoot the puck in and it would deflect off Hellebuyck’s pad before going into the net. The Ducks would take a costly penalty late in the game and Scheifele would score his second of the game on the man advantage. The Ducks would pull Gibson in the final minutes of the game, but they couldn’t get the tying goal.
Analysis:
The Ducks played a similar game as they did against the Capitals. Anaheim played physical but just came up short. In this contest, they got down by a goal a few times and were able to rally. A late penalty in the third period cost the Ducks at least a point in this contest. Anaheim did get a power play late in the game, but they couldn’t tie it up. Regardless of the outcome of each game this season, the Ducks have been entertaining to watch with their physical play.
