Podcast: The Anaheim Gulls Are Coming To Town
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks enter the holiday break having gone 1-3-0 on their last road trip with a severely depleted team.
Anaheim was without the services of their captain Ryan Getzlaf on Saturday and Sunday. Getzlaf and Jakob Silfverberg are both battling the flu. Silfverberg was able to give it a go in Saturday’s exciting 6-5 shootout win over the Islanders, but he too had to sit out on Sunday. Coach Dallas Eakins said the flu has been going around in the locker room.
The Ducks are also without Nick Ritchie(knee), Derek Grant(shoulder), and Troy Terry(knee) who are all on the IR. Rickard Rakell suffered an upper-body injury on the trip.
Eakins was forced to use many of the players he coached from San Diego. In the last game against the New York Rangers, eight of the 18 skaters played in San Diego last season. The Ducks were without four of their five top-scoring forwards. Anaheim only had 11 healthy forwards dressed for the contest.
On this show, we discuss how Eakins had to manage the depleted Ducks and whether Anaheim will be forced to trade for more depth.
