The Anaheim Ducks took on the Calgary Flames for the second time this season. The Ducks game against the St. Louis Blues was postponed on Tuesday and the Flames dropped their game against the Los Angeles Kings the night before. Cam Talbot and John Gibson would each get the starts for their respective teams. The Ducks and Flames players were on the ice as the team gave a tribute announcement for Jay Bouwmeester.

The Flames were on full attack mode in the first period. Elias Lindholm would get the game’s first goal as the Max Jones’ hooking penalty expired. The Flames would get their first penalty but the Ducks could not convert. They had four shots and looked good on this power play. The Flames would then score a pair of goals to extend their lead. On the second goal, the Ducks just stood around watching the play. Nic Deslauriers and Zac Rinaldo would drop the gloves in a one-sided win for Deslauriers. The Ducks would get another chance on the power play when Sam Bennett but the Ducks did not convert and the Flames would end the period with a goal with the last 20 seconds in the period to have a 4-0 lead after the first period.

Gibson was pulled and Ryan Miller would start the second and finish the game. The Ducks slowed down the Flames in the second but still couldn’t find a goal. Miller made some key one-on-one saves and was solid on killing off the Deslauriers interference penalty. The Ducks would get yet another chance on the power play as Michael Stone got called for tripping. A goal was scored but it was from the Flames and their short-handed unit. The Ducks did outshoot the Flames, 18-11 but went down 5-0 after the second.

The Flames slowed down this period and just worked the clock as much as they could. The Ducks took most of the shots but it would be the Flames getting on the board giving Mark Jankowski he second goal of the game. Rinaldo would get called for slashing but they easily killed that off. The Ducks just went through the motions and dropped this game 6-0.

Analysis:

The Ducks were playing a team desperate for points to get in the top three in the Pacific Division. Regardless of the Flames playing the night before, the Ducks should have played with some heart in this game. Troy Terry, Deslauriers and Miller were the only ones to actually show up to play. This was one of the saddest attempts of hockey by the Ducks this season. Not much more to say other than that. The Ducks will take on the Flames on February 17th, in the third game of a four-game season series.

What’s Next?

The Ducks will play the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday, February 16th, at 1:00 PM.
