Ducks Give Deslauriers Two-Year Extension
By Michael Walters
Today the Anaheim Ducks announced they signed Nicolas Deslauriers to a two-year extension. The contract is worth $2 million, with an AAV of $1 million per the Athletic’s Eric Stephens.
Deslauriers has spent this season with the Anaheim Ducks on the fourth line. He has played in 46 games, registering seven total points(2 G + 5 A) and an on ice rating of -5. He brings an element of grit to the Ducks and isn’t afraid to defend any of his teammates on a given night.
Deslauriers leads the league in fights with 12 total. Nine of them have occurred at Honda Center and three of them on the road. He has won 11 of the 12 fights according to HockeyFights.com.
Analysis:
Deslauriers’ offensive numbers/analytics aren’t great, but that’s not his role. He brings energy to his game and helps to jump-start the Ducks team with timely fights. He can be counted on every night to deliver a hard check, go into the dirty areas, and he won’t back down from any player in the league. He has quickly become a fan favorite this season in Anaheim. Signing him for two more years for $ 2 million is a small price to pay for the enthusiasm and physicality he brings to the game.
Congratulations on the extension Deslauriers!
We recently made a shirt his fight with Austin Watson.
