VIDEO: Ducks Take Down The Canucks
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks visited the Vancouver Canucks for the first of two games on a brief Canadian road trip. John Gibson was in net against Thatcher Demko.
The Ducks opened the scoring with a goal by Adam Henrique. He appeared to try to pass the puck in front of the Vancouver net, but it deflected off a Canuck player and ended up in the back of the net. Later in the period, the Ducks would go on the power play and Ryan Getzlaf would make a nice reverse pass behind the net to Derek Grant. Demko lost track of the puck for a second and Grant was able to score going five-hole as Demko tried to recover.

In the middle period, the teams exchanged chances. Loui Eriksson had a chance in front but shot the puck wide. Rickard Rakell had a great bid in the slot, but Demko made a great glove save. The Ducks would get another power play chance and this time Henrique would get his second of the game after a nice pass from Troy Terry.
The Ducks had built a 3-0 lead, but the Canucks would get a power play of their own and convert to get on the board. Then in the final seconds of the period, all hell broke loose. Max Jones delivered a hard check to Elias Pettersson and Tyler Myers took exception. Myers checked Jones a few times and then dropped his gloves as Jakob Silfverberg skated near him.
Josh Manson then came flying in and tossed the 6 foot 8-inch giant Myers to the ground like a rag doll. In the end, Manson and Myers both received four minutes of penalties.
In the third period, the Ducks added two more goals and won 5-1. Sam Steel scored in front of the net and it appeared the Canucks were going to challenge the goal for goalie interference. The replay showed Rickard Rakell was pushed into Demko and the goal stood as the Canucks decided to not challenge. Anaheim added one last goal as Grant found Brendan Guhle at the side of the net for an easy score.
Analysis:
After getting blown out 6-0 by Calgary, the Ducks came to play today. Anaheim got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. The Canucks did push back in the second period with 20 shots on goal, but they were only able to get one puck past Gibson. The Ducks were perfect on the power play converting on both chances. Things got chippy at the end of the second period and Manson came to the aid of his teammates. All around great bounce-back performance from the loss against the Flames.
What’s Next?
The Ducks will face the Calgary Flames tomorrow at 1 PM.
