VIDEO: Ducks Lose To Golden Knights In OT
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks took on the Vegas Golden Knights for the final time of the 2019-20 season. John Gibson was in net against Malcolm Subban. The contest was a high scoring affair that needed overtime to determine a winner.
Vegas dominated the opening period applying all kinds of pressure. Patrick Brown would score just over halfway through the period. The Ducks were able to get a goal by Devin Shore to the dying seconds of the period to tie the game.
Halfway through the second period, Nick Ritchie would strip the puck and score right in front of the Vegas net to give Anaheim a 2-1 lead. The Golden Knights would strike back with two goals by Alec Martinez and William Karlsson. Vegas held a 3-2 advantage after two periods.

Ritchie would tie the game up once more to start the third period. Adam Henrique tried a warp around attempt and the puck came to Troy Terry, who found Ritchie alone in front for the score. Karlsson would then score back-to-back goals to give Vegas a 5-3 advantage. Things looked back for Anaheim late in the game, but Henrique came through with back-to-back goals of his own. Both goals were similar as the Ducks crashed the net and were able to get to the puck by Subban after the initial attempt. The Ducks had pulled Gibson when both goals were scored.
In overtime, the Ducks did start the period on the power play but weren’t able to convert. Rickard Rakell nearly won the game when he beat Subban, but his shot rang off the post. Instead, Vegas would win after a turnover by Ryan Getzlaf, which lead to a counter-attack and game-winning goal by Shea Theodore.
Team Notes/News:
Derek Grant did not play for “precautionary reasons” per the Ducks. There has been plenty of interest from other teams in picking him up for a playoff run.
Analysis
This a highly entertaining game with the teams battling back and forth. It looked like the Ducks were done in the final minutes of the game. It was good to see them rally from two goals down in the final three minutes. The run and gun style of play is not what Anaheim is used to playing, but they were able to hang with Vegas despite the slow start and nearly won the game in overtime.
