Ducks Sign Bryce Kindopp

By Michael Walters

Yesterday the Anaheim Ducks signed Bryce Kindopp to an entry-level contract(ELC) per Cap Friendly. His three-year ELC is worth $2.7 million with an AAV of $925,000. He is a restricted free agent(RFA).

Kindopp is a 6’2″ 205 lbs right-wing that shoots with his right hand. Bryce was undrafted but was ranked 152 by the Draft Analyst in 2019 among overage players.

Kindopp has spent the last four seasons with the WHL Everett Silvertips and is their current Captain. He did extremely well last season and this season. He had 39 goals and over 70 points last season. He reached the 70 point total again this season and scored 40 goals. In the last two seasons, he has been averaging just over one point per game.

Here are his recent stats below per Elite Prospects. You might need to turn your mobile device sideways to see all of them.

2016-17 Everett Silvertips WHL 60 7 7 14 8 -4 | Playoffs 10 1 0 1 0 -1
2017-18 Everett Silvertips WHL 72 24 12 36 10 6 | Playoffs 22 2 3 5 4 -1
2018-19 Everett Silvertips WHL 67 39 34 73 26 37 | Playoffs 10 5 6 11 6 1
2019-20 Everett Silvertips WHL 63 40 34 74 42 30 |

A key to his offensive game is his willingness to go to the net according to Silvertips head coach Dennis Williams. Kindopp is a fast skater and is strong on his stick with the puck. He will go into the corners to battle for a puck and can create turnovers. Any time he is on the ice he has a good chance to score or create a play. The only downside is that he can take unnecessary penalties at times.

Analysis

General Manager Bob Murray talked about improving the team’s speed and skill at the trade deadline so adding Kindopp would fit this bill. Murray has also been looking for more offense and Kindopp has been a scoring machine at Everett. The question is can Kindopp translate his offensive success from the WHL to the NHL. If he can, then Murray might have made a great pick up and found a diamond in the rough.
