Today California Governor Newsom issued a stay at home order except for essential needs and requested aid from Congress.

The order states that “Everyone is required to stay home except to get food, care for a relative or friend, get necessary health care, or go to an essential job. If you go out, keep at least 6 feet of distance.”

Newsom asked Congress for $1 billion in federal funds to support the state’s medical infrastructure to deal with COVID-19. He said the financial aid is necessary to obtain ventilators, other medical supplies, and assist hospitals. The Governor also asked for support for small businesses, including rental assistance, various loans, and cash assistance programs. He also inquired about more funding for Medicaid, federal food assistance, housing, and various other public assistance programs.

There are projections that many more Californians could be affected, so the goal of this order to help stop or slow the spread of the virus in the state. People will not be on complete lockdown, but should only go out for essential needs as the Governor stated.

Locations that should be open include banks, gas stations, pharmacies, grocery stores and take out/delivery orders from restaurants. If unsure about whether a business if open or not, then give them a call. According to the Governor, county officials have been given some discretion in their own jurisdictions.
