NHL Looking To Host Games At League Arenas
By Michael Walters
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman discussed a potential league arena plan to conclude the season with Sportsnet this past week.
Instead of using neutral sites, the latest idea would be to use at least four existing NHL arenas to play out the remaining 189 games left. Several games, likely three a day, would be played at each arena in a condensed schedule to finish the season in an expeditious manner. According to ESPN, three potential locations could be the NHL rinks in Carolina, Edmonton, and Minnesota.
If an arena is chosen from each division, then most of the home games for that particular division could be played in each specific location. Bettman said the arena locations may not be specifically based on division and with no fans in attendance, there probably won’t really be any “home” games anyway for the rest of the season.
“Anything we’re considering doing starts with health and well-being, whether it’s the players or other personnel or fans or the community at large. Everybody is going through a tough time,” Bettman told Sportsnet. “We’re hopeful that by doing the right things in the short term that we’re able to come back and hopefully complete this season on some basis that is fair and has integrity.”
On the latest podcast, we discuss Bettman’s plan and several other topics which include:
