Professional Sports Could Return To California By June
By Michael Walters
During California Governor Gavin Newsom’s press conference today he said professional sports could return to the state in June. This is as a result of the state trending in the right direction of flattening the curve.
The plan would be for sports to be able to resume in the first or second week of June as he has been communicating with various sports commissioners. There would be no fans in attendance at first and each team would have guidelines to follow. In addition, dining at restaurants and hair salons could re-open in the near future with certain guidelines as well.
The Governor is also going to allow each county in the state to determine when they can open based upon certain criteria. As of right now 53 of the 58 counties meet the criteria. Counties can have up to 25 cases per 100,000 residents or no higher than an 8% positive result rate among people who test for the virus. They must also have no higher than a 5% increase in hospitalizations over a 7-day period or fewer than 20 hospitalizations over 14 days.
We discussed the re-opening of California and various states on our recent podcast. We also conducted a poll in regard to what fans thought about attending a live sporting event. We discussed several other topics including how the National Hockey League is looking toward a 24-team playoff to finish the 2019-20 season.
