Ducks Sign Jacob Perreault
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks announced they have signed right wing Jacob Perreault to a three-year entry-level contract(ELC). The deal is worth $2,775,000 and has an annual average salary of $925,000 per Cap Friendly. It also includes a $92,500 signing bonus for each year.
Perreault was the Ducks 27th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He played for the Sarnia Sting of the OHL for the last two seasons. Last season he led the Sarnia Sting in goals (39) and power-play goals (15) and registered 70 total points(39 goals + 31 assists) in 57 games in 2019-20. His 39 goals led Sarnia and his 70 points were second overall on the team. He was very effective on the power play last season. He led the power play unit with 15 powerplay goals and 29 powerplay points.
He is an outstanding skater due to his speed and acceleration. He has a very quick first step that he can use to break away from his opponents. He also has an excellent shot and is good in one-on-one situations. Additionally, he has a solid hockey IQ as he can make plays with his passes and not just his shot. Jacob is also the son of Yanic Perreault and has been working on face-offs with his father, who won an outstanding 64.5% of his career faceoffs.
He does still have a few aspects of his game that he can work on. He can get knocked off the puck and needs to work on his balance and control. As a result, he can mishandle the puck and make turnovers. He also needs to work on his defensive zone coverage by not getting to puck focused.
