Jeff Solomon To Join Anaheim
By Michael Walters
According to TSN’s Elliotte Friedman, the Los Angeles Kings Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and Legal Affairs Jeff Solomon will be leaving the organization and joining the Anaheim Ducks.
Solomon graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1983 and started working as attorney in tax and estate planning. After a few years, he decided to venture into sports and worked as a sports agent in his free time and on weekends.
He was eventually able to become a full time agent and worked in the business for twenty years before joining the Los Angeles Kings in 2007. He helped build the team’s roster by managing the cap, which went on to win two Stanley Cups. He negotiated players contracts and dealt with matters regarding the CBA, such as free agency, arbitration, etc.
According to TSN’s Frank Seravalli, Solomon’s title will be Vice President of Hockey Operations and Assistant GM or something very similar. He will be replacing David McNab, who just retired after working 43 years in the NHL. He worked his last 28 years with the Anaheim Ducks and was the Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations when he finished his career in Anaheim.
When McNab left Anaheim, he left a huge void of experience and knowledge as well. Bringing in Solomon will help fill that void and bring in some added legal expertise as well. Solomon has been able to manage the cap situation in Los Angeles and bring two Stanley Cup to the Kings. His combined experience of 15 years with the Kings and 20 years as a sports agent will greatly assist the Ducks in getting back on track. He will report to General Manager Bob Murray, so hopefully Solomon can bend his ear enough so the Ducks can be competitive again.
The Anaheim Ducks made an official announcement about Solomon joining the organization shortly after this article was published.
