By Michael Walters

The Anaheim Ducks returned home to host the Vanoucer Canucks. John Gibson got the start in net against Jaroslav Halak. Jakob Silfverberg returned to the lineup. Max Comtois was out with an upper-body injury and is listed as day-to-day.

Recap

The Ducks got an early power play, but did not convert. Vancouver struck first on a goal by Nils Hoglander.

The Ducks then got a 4 minute power play as Troy Terry was high sticked by Justin BaileyTrevor Zegras let a blast go and it beat Halak high to tie the game.

Early in the second period, the Ducks got a power play. Ryan Getzlaf fired the puck into a crowd in front of the net and Zegras got to rebound scoring his second of the game.

Anaheim then expanded their lead when Sonny Milano scored on a spin-o-rama pass from Zegras to make it 3-1 Ducks. The teams got heated at the end of the second period, but no penalties were called.

The Ducks killed off a penalty to begin the third period. Mason McTavish had a solid chance created by a pass from Terry, but Halak made the stop.

Anaheim still held a two goal advantage with about three minutes to go. Vancouver pulled Halak for the extra skater. Adam Henrique would score an empty net goal to make it 4-1. Sam Steel would score in the final minute to make it a 5-1 final.

Analysis:

The Ducks got down early in this one, but they were able to ties things up quickly and then didn’t look back in the second period. Anaheim was able to convert twice on the power play and dropped 38 shots on Halak.

The chemistry between Getzlaf and Terry continues to produce nightly. Zegras and Milano continue to mix it up as well. Zegras had two power play goals and a nifty assist on Milano’s goal.

Zegras could have had a chance at a hat trick, especially in the final three minutes when Vancouver had an empty net. However, Head Coach Dallas Eakins didn’t play him down the stretch in the third period. Curious to see what the reasoning was behind the move.

Overall, another solid outing for the Ducks. They have outscored their opponents 30-11 during this winning streak.

Team Notes/Stats:

Terry earned an assist in this contest extending his point streak to 14 games.

Getzlaf earned a pair of assists and now have 999 points. He has 17 points in 16 games this season. He had 17 points in 48 games last season.

Zegras (20 years, 239 days) is the youngest Ducks player to tally three or more points in a game since Cam Fowler(19 years, 331 days) on November 1st, 2011.
