Final Horn To Puck Drop
After the Horn (October 27th vs Vancouver):
The Ducks’ woes continue after falling to the Vancouver Canucks Tuesday evening in overtime, after darting out to a 5-2 lead. A.J. Greer scored twice while Beckett Sennecke, Leo Carlsson, and Jeff Malott each logged one of their own. Vancouver logged four goals in the third period alone, while executing the game winner in overtime with less than thirty seconds left to play. An unfortunate 5-on-3 power play in the Canucks’ favor served as the deciding factor after winning a late faceoff and finishing the Ducks off at the Honda Center.
Anaheim was hopeful for a victory after coming off a five game skid last week and taking advantage of a struggling Philadelphia Flyers team. Following the victory, Anaheim was tasked with taking on the 2-10-1 Vancouver Canucks, one of three teams behind them in the Western Division. The victory broke the Canucks’ 10-game losing streak and the Ducks are now 3-6-1 in their last ten outings.
Before the Drop (October 29th vs Buffalo)
The next team that stands in Anaheim’s way is the Buffalo Sabres, who they’ll face Thursday evening at home. The Sabres have performed to a 4-3-3 record over their last ten and recorded 13 points since the start of the season, just two more than the Ducks’ 11 points.
In their two meetings last season, the Ducks and Sabres split the series with a 5-3 Buffalo victory in January, followed by a 6-5 overtime win for the Ducks in March.
The Sabres have scored 33 goals this season, along with 41 goals allowed. For the Ducks, they have recorded 37 goals and surrendered 43. Buffalo has only logged one shutout this season, enough for a surprising third-most in the league. Their defensive capabilities will have an opportunity to showcase themselves while Anaheim ranks 29th in the NHL in terms of shots taken.
Anaheim will look for improvement in any aspect of the game with mediocrity becoming the theme of the early 2026-27 season. The organization has found difficulty solidifying themselves as a force to be reckoned with while sitting in the bottom half of the league in the majority of statistical categories. A hopeful breakthrough on one side of the puck is expected to energize the young squad and assist in improved performance for the remainder of the season. Anaheim will have to supplement their recent offensive breakthrough with a relentless back line, who appeared to dissolve into the 3rd period Tuesday.
The Sabres take on the Ducks at the Honda Center at 7pm PST on October 29th, 2026.
