NHL Entry Draft Rounds 2-7
By Richard GonzalezDay two of the 2017 NHL entry draft is complete. It was been pretty quite as far as any trade updates. If any trade were going to happen it would have been completed during the selection of all the first round picks. Now we will wait and see if any blockbuster trades get done by the Avalanche after the draft.

The Avalanche select right shooting defenseman Conor Timmins from Thorold Ontario, Canada. Timmins is 6’1″ weighing 181 pounds and is known for his patients on the power play and his ability to keep calm under pressure. Timmins played with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL. Last season, Timmins scored 61 points (7 goals and 54 assists) and has scored a career total of 74 points (11 goals and 63 assists) in 127 games with the Greyhounds. Timmins also added points (1 goal and 7 assists) in 11 playoff games with the Greyhounds.

The Avalanche select right winger Nick Henry from Portage la Prairie, MB, Canada.
Henry is 5’11 weighing 190 pounds and is known as an all-around versatile player who drives the net. Last season, Henry played with the Regina Pats of the WHL. Henry played 72 games scoring 81 points (35 goals and 46 assists). He also added 12 points (4 goals and 8 assists) in 22 playoff games. Henry was the MJHL rookie of the year. Henry did not attend the draft today because he was at his high school graduation.

Pick #114 was acquired from the New York Rangers in the Nick Holden trade. The Avalanche select goaltender Petr Kvaca from Brandys Nad Labem, Czech Republic.
Kvaca is 6’1″ weighing 174 pounds. Last season, Kvaca played with the HC Ceske Budejouice playing in 18 games with the league’s best 1.41 goals against average and a save percentage of .940.

The Avalanche select center Igor Shvyryov from Magnitogorsk, Russia. Shvyryov is 6’0″ weighing 205 pounds. He has great playmaking skills and was 56 % in over 1,000 face-offs taken. Last season, Shvyryov played in 40 games with the Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk of the MHL scoring 70 points (21 goals and 49 assists). He also added 3 points (2 goals and 1 assists) in 5 playoff games. Shvyryov also played in 10 games with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the KHL going scoreless.

The Avalanche selected left winger Denis Smirnov of Moskva, Russia. Smirnov was passed on in last season’s draft. Smirnov is 5’10” weighing 185 pounds. He’s a dynamic forward with the ability to make great passes and can bury the puck. Last season, Smirnov played for Penn State University of the NCAA. Smirnov lead the nation in scoring by a freshman with 47 points (19 goals and 28 assists) in 39 games played.

The Avalanche select defenseman Nick Leivermann of Eden, Prairie, Minnesota. Leivermann is 5’10” weighing 194 pounds. Leivermann captained his high school team. Leivermann played in 21 games scoring 34 points (10 goals and 24 assists) with Eden Prairie High school of the USHS. He also added 5 points ( 1 goal and 4 assists) in 5 playoff games. Leivermann played 8 games scoring 1 goal with the Bloomington Thunder of the USHL. Leivermann is committed to the University of Norte Dame of the NCAA.
The Colorado Avalanche will host their development camp on June 26-29 at Family Sports Center. Medical and physical testing will be conducted on Monday, June 26th, 2017. June 27th – June 28th, will consist of two a day on ice practices from 8AM-12:45 PM and 3 PM to 4:45 PM. June 28th will only be a morning on-ice session from 8AM-12:45 PM.
All on-ice sessions are free and open to the public.
