Boyler Alert
By Phil Wunderlich
Fan favorite, Brian Boyle, was recently traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for prospect Byron Froese and a 2017 2nd round draft pick. Brian Boyle had provided the leadership we have needed in the locker room especially with the injuries to Ryan Callahan and our beloved captain, Steven Stamkos.
Boyle had played for two other teams before the Lightning, the Los Angeles Kings and the New York Rangers. Tampa Bay acquired Boyle in the off season from the New York Rangers after which he signed a three year deal. This was the final year of Boyle’s contract and he would have had to sign another deal in the off-season, and  the fact that the Bolts don’t have a lot of money in cap since Hedman’s new deal kicks in next year, it unfortunately did not seem fitting to keep Boyle.
However, during his time with the Lightning he finished with at least 20 points in each of his three seasons and averaging more than 12 minutes per game of ice time. During that stretch he tallied 41 goals and 25 assists. Boyle is also very dominate when it comes to face-offs, winning over 50% of his draws during the time span. So clearly he was a key component to the organization.
