Home Sweet Home

Kevin Flannery

By Jake Ricker

Overview

Tonight it’s the Tampa Bay Lightning (36-14-3) taking on the Vancouver Canucks (21-26-6). The Bolts will look to get a win at home after a long road trip, while the Canucks will look to end a 2 game losing streak. This will be the 2nd time these two teams face off with the first meeting ending in a 4-2 Bolts Victory. The Bolts will look to grab the series sweep while the Canucks will look to even the score. Let’s take a look at the game plan for these two teams as they get set to square off.

Tampa’s Outlook and Past

The Bolts have won 3 of their last 5 games scoring 19 goals over that span. The Bolts are coming off a bad loss to the Oilers and will need to change things if they want to get a win tonight. The Bolts struggled in all aspects of the game, giving up too many odd-man rushes, not converting on the power play, and more. Nikita Kucherov has struggled as of late as he has not scored in the past 11 games but will look to end that tonight. The Bolts are finally back in Tampa and the home crowd will likely be rocking tonight. They will look to maintain their top spot with another win tonight.

Three Keys To The Game

Kevin Flannery

1. Structure

This road trip wasn’t a failure but an eye-opener. Sloppy play and no substance to our play lately.

2. Special Teams

Both the PK and PP have been sub-par in 2018.

3. All-Star Hangover

Kucherov and Stamkos have been just plain bad lately. Need to turn it around.

Vancouver’s Outlook and Past

The Canucks continue to struggle since we last saw them as they still sit near the bottom of the league. The Canucks have won 2 of their last 5 games scoring 11 goals over that span. The Canucks have the 9th best power play in the league (21.4%) and will need to get that going again tonight. tonight will be the halfway mark of a 4 game road trip for the Canucks. They will look to jump up past the Oilers in the wild-card standings with a win tonight.

Three Keys To The Game

1. Start Scoring

The Canucks have only scored 11 goals over their past 5 games, they will need to get the offence going to get a win tonight.

2. Power Play

The Canucks have a great power play going this year but if given the opportunity, they need to make sure they can capitalize on it.

3.  Boeser and Vanek

Boeser and Vanek are both in the top 3 for Goals, Assists, and Points on the team. Look for them to have the puck at all times when on the ice.
