The Real King is Honored as the Bolts Take on Los Angeles

Kevin Flannery

By Jake Ricker

Overview

Tonight it’s the Tampa Bay Lightning (37-14-3) taking on the Los Angeles Kings (30-19-5). The Bolts will look to get a win as they honor a great former Bolt, while the Kings will look get their 4th win in a row. This will be the 2nd time these two teams face off with the first meeting ending in a 5-2 Bolts victory. The Bolts will look to grab the series sweep while the Kings will look to even the score. Let’s take a look at the game plan for these two teams as they get set to square off.

Vinny Night

Tonight the Bolts will be honoring the Great Vincent Lecavalier (Vinny) as they send his number to the rafters. Vinny will become the second Bolt to have his number retired as he will be next to his pal and teammate Martin St Louis (Marty). Vinny holds multiple Lightning records and was a great captain for the Bolts. He was a leader both on and off the ice, tonight will be a great night for the franchise.

Tampa’s Outlook and Past

The Bolts have won 3 of their last 5 games scoring 19 goals over that span. The Bolts are coming off a great win against the Canucks and will need to continue that play tonight to grab another win. Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos have finally broken out of their slumps and will look to continue their newfound success. This will be the last home game for the Bolts before they head back out on the road. They will look to maintain their top spot with another win tonight.

Three Keys To The Game

Kevin Flannery

1. Win For Vinny

As mentioned before tonight is a big night for the Lightning franchise and the Bolts will want to put on a good show for Vinny.

2. Continue Secondary Scoring

The Bolts depth has really shown up lately and will want to continue too as we enter the tail end of the season.

3. Don’t Sit on the Lead

The Bolts again almost blew their lead late in the game, don’t get too comfortable if you get a lead against the Kings.

King’s Outlook and Past

The Kings have been hot as of late and are having a decent season. The Kings are on a 3 game winning streak scoring 12 goals over those three games. The Kings have the number 1 ranked penalty kill in the league (84.8%) and will look to use that to their advantage tonight. This will be the 2nd half of a back and the 2nd game of a 7 game road trip. The Kings will look to maintain 2nd place in the Pacific division with a win tonight.

Three Keys To The Game

1. Keep scoring

The King’s offense has played really well as of late and will need to continue that tonight as they take on another high powered offense.

2. Control the Pace

The Kings are playing in a back to back tonight so they will want to try and play a slow-paced game.

Kopitar has been lights out for the kings as he leads the team in goals, assists, and points. Look for him to get the puck whenever he is on the ice.
