Overview
TheTampa Bay Lightning (48-19-4) will be taking on the Edmonton Oilers (31-35-5) on the back end of back to back games. The Bolts have lost two in a row at.home and will look to get back in the right direction with a win. This will be the second and final meeting against the Edmonton Oilers. The last matchup between these two teams was in early February a 6-2 win for the Oilers fueled by Captain Connor McDavid. Tampa needs a win after losing a crucial game to Boston last night.
Tampa’s Outlook
Another two points on the line as the regular season is just a few weeks away from ending. This game is to establish a higher seed in the Stanley Cup playoffs with many teams chasing the Lightning at the top of the standings. The Bolts are hosting an Edmonton Oilers team that is out of the playoffs but still a goal scoring threat. This team can be a tough task to defeat regardless of their place in the standings and the team cannot forget that. The fatigue is an important factor, as we will see how Tampa handles these games less than 24 hours apart. Fatigue is big in the playoffs with high intensity games and this game can be a measure for how the team will react to accumulated minutes on the ice. The penalty kill has to be fixed as Boston was 2 for 3 on the powerplay last night. The penalty kill has to tighten up with the playoffs around the corner a bad penalty can cost a team to go home.
Tonight’s Three Keys:
Kevin Flannery
1. Figure It Out-
Back to back divisional losses and some concerning play have blanketed this team. The penalty kill has been off and it has resulted in allowing goals. The team needs to go back to its winning ways and play solid hockey, keep a cool head, and don’t get caught up in mind games.
2. Fight Back-
First time being shutout last night, bounce back with some anger. Best way to answer being shut out is to get goals. It is impossible to win without scoring, goal scoring is a fundamental of the game. Take any goal that counts whether it’s sloppy or well executed off a rush.
3. Play To Win-
Too many games we’re chasing the flow and barely generating. Time to take over and have some fun. Play with some passion. Play 60 minutes in front of the home crowd time to make it feel like a playoff atmosphere and demonstrate that on the ice. Show the opponent when this team is a Stanley Cup candidate.
