Domingue and the Bolts Strike the Devils 5-2!

Kevin Flannery

By: Jake Ricker

Overview

The Bolts got a good win as they jumped on the Devils quickly and never let the Devils catch back up. Domingue had another good game stopping shot after shot proving he can fill in for Vasy. The Devils could just not figure out the Bolts D until the final period which would prove to be too little too late for the Devils. The Bolts special teams had a great game as well getting things done when they were called on. It was another good win for the Bolts so lets take a look at how we got here period by period.

First Period

Things got off to a quick start with both teams grabbing a few chances early. Both netminders stayed sharp though not giving either team an early lead. The Bolts then came in on a rush after a quick change, and as Schneider went to play the puck Joseph took it away dropping it to Killorn who threw it on net where the puck bounced off Schneider and into the back of the net with 16:41 to go. With the Bolts up 1-0, the Devils looked to respond and they quickly got the puck into the offensive zone grabbing some quick shots on net. Domingue stood tall though making sure the Devils could not tie this game back up without a fight. Brian Boyle was then called for cross-checking to give the Bolts the first power play of the night. The Bolts quickly went to work as Kucherov got the puck down low and then put it right on Points stick who was in the slot and fired one home for a 2-0 Bolts lead. The Bolts didn’t slow down there though as just a few mins later Point sent a cross-crease pass to a streaking Johnson who put it home to put the Bolts up 3. The Devils were then finally able to get some offense going and would be quickly rewarded as Stefan Noesen fired one home to get the Devils on the board. However, Domingue took objection as he got up from being knocked over and the Bolts would challenge. The replay showed Domingue just out of his crease and Brian Boyle trying to sneak past Domingue but knocking him out of position as the shot was made. It looked like this one was coming back but to our surprise, it was called a good goal cutting the Bolts lead to 2. There was clearly interference here but the only explanation we can think of is that Domingue was out of the crease (Just barely) so therefore the contact was “legal”, none the less it was the Bolts leading 3-1. The Bolts were not about to let their 3 goal lead be taken from them and they intended to get it back. And that’s just what they do as Girardi threw one on net where Paquette grabbed the rebound and stuffed it home to make it 4-1 Bolts. Things then settled down as both teams grabbed a few chances but neither found the back of the net. The Bolts would then have to head to the penalty kill as Girardi was called for Interference. The Bolts successfully killed it off though keeping the Bolts up by 3 as time winded down in the first. The Devils picked up a few more shots before the period ended but it was the Bolts who lead things by a score of 4-1!

Second Period

Both teams would look to get off to a quick start in the opening minutes of the second as they went back and forth. The Devils would get the first power play of the second as Coburn was called for tripping. Domingue made some good saves through despite the Devils quick shots, killing off the penalty. The Bolts then quickly picked things back up as Joseph fought his way to the front of the net and got a great shot on goal. The Bolts kept up the pressure and would be rewarded as Point came into the zone and a Devils defender tried to swipe the puck away but ended up putting it into his own net (Point would be credited with the goal). Both teams then remained disciplined as they went back and forth looking to grab another goal but both netminders turned away everything that was thrown at them. With under 7 min to got the Bolts turned up the jets as they pounded the Devils with a multitude of shots keeping them on their toes. The Devils would finally break things up but the Bolts remained the team with the most possession time. Even when the Devils did get a shot off on Domingue, he made no mistake in quickly denying the chance and getting the Bolts back on their way. Things then got a little chippy as the game went on as these two teams have built up a little hate for each other over the recent years. As time began to wind down, Love Joy would be called for a high stick giving the Bolts a power play just under the 2 min mark. Despite a few chances including Johnson hitting the post, the Bolts would not capitalize on the power play before the period ended. This would leave just over 30 seconds remaining on the penalty which would be carried over to the second.

Goals: 5-1 Tampa Bay

Third Period

With just over 30 seconds to go on the power play, the Bolts quickly went to work. Unfortunately, with the shortened time, the Bolts would not be able to capitalize and the Devils killed it off. The Devils began to push back as they got some quality zone time. The Devils would then finally get another one past Domingue as Jesper Bratt sniped one from the right circle to cut the Bolts lead to 3. The Devils were really pushing for that 3rd goal as they played to the whistle on every shot. the Bolts would take objection as the Devils swarmed their goaltender but things would quickly settle down. The period then began to quickly go by as both teams played a disciplined game staying out of the box. Both teams would go back and forth as time winded down and the Devils needed to get something going if they wanted any shot at tying this game. The Devils could just not get things going as they failed to get much set up. With just one minute to go, the Devils made one last push, but the Bolts made sure they were unsuccessful. The Bolts would go on to grab another big victory by a score of 5-2

Goals: 5-2 Tampa Bay

Up Next and Final Strike

The Bolts got another good win tonight with all aspects playing well. Domingue once again showed that he is perfectly capable of stepping in for Vasy as he made tons of quality stops. The Bolts got off to another great start which has been a huge key for them in recent games. Both sides of special teams played well as well even though they did not see much action. The Bolts sat back in the Third a little but played a complete game for the most part. This was the kind of game you like to see from the Bolts and we hope to see continue

The Bolts will look to continue their winning streak as they take on the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday, November 27th at 7:30 PM at Amalie Arena.
