Podcast: Embracing The Rebuild
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks have communicated to me they have fully embraced the rebuild. General Manager Bob Murray and the organization realize it is going to take time to get the team back to being a competitive force every season. They understand this process is going to take more than just one season. After all Rome wasn’t built in a day.
The strategy going forward for Anaheim is to continue with the youth movement. The organization wants to develop the current young players and to maintain their focus on drafting quality young talent.
Another piece of this rebuild includes Assistant General Manager Jeff Solomon developing and managing the analytics department, which has been lacking as compared to many other teams in the NHL. The organization also wants to give players like Trevor Zegras more freedom to be creative on the ice.
One more part of the plan is to explore future trades they convened to me. The Ducks are willing to trade roster players for young prospects and/or draft picks. They also may be willing to take on a bad contract to acquire prospects/picks and they have the cap space($13 million per CapFriendly) to do so. The team could also explore trading Ryan Kesler‘s contract according to Sportsnet’s Elliott Friedman.
On this show, we breakdown the Ducks rebuild process and explore which players could be involved in future trades.
