Kulikov Traded To Anaheim
By Michael Walters
Dmitry Kulikov was traded to the Anaheim Ducks for future considerations. The Minnesota Wild announced the trade.
Dmitry Kulikov started his NHL career with the Florida Panthers in 2009. He has played on several teams which include Florida, Buffalo, Winnipeg, New Jersey, Edmonton, and Minnesota. He has appeared in 805 NHL games and registered 198 total points(42 goals + 156 assists). His career on ice rating is -38. Last season he played in 80 games with the Minnesota Wild, scoring 7 goals and adding 17 assists.
Kulikov is a solid skater and an excellent puck handler. He has a good hockey IQ at both ends of the rink. He is good at disrupting opposing forwards, while at the same time providing some offense from his game. His contract is worth $2.25 million and ends at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. He has an 8 team no trade list per Cap Friendly.
It’s difficult to evaluate this trade since our favorite player “future considerations” is involved, but overall this appears to be a good move. General Manager Pat Verbeek added another defensemen to the core, who can play top 4 minutes if needed. Kulikov is an experienced defensemen with size at 6’1″, 205 pounds. If he works out well with the team this season, then the Ducks could sign him to a long term deal. If he doesn’t work out, then Verbeek can trade him for a pick or prospect at the trade deadline.
Ducks Possible Starting Defensive Lineup This Season:
Cam Fowler – Jamie Drysdale
Dmitry Kulikov – John Klingberg
Urho Vaakanainen – Kevin Shattenkirk
