VIDEO: Ducks Lose 5-1 To The Red Wings

The Anaheim Ducks finished their road trip against the Detroit Red Wings. John Gibson was in net against Husso.

Recap

The Ducks went shorthanded in the opening minute of the contest. Larkin got to a rebound and put it past Gibson for an early 1-0 lead.

Anaheim would then answer back with a goal by Trevor Zegras. Troy Terry backhanded a puck on net and the rebound came back to Zegras, who scored to tie the game.

The Ducks had a power play, but couldn’t convert. A few minutes later, Gibson got a double minor, which resulted in a Detroit power play. The Red Wings scored to make it a 2-1 lead.

The Ducks had 5-on-3 power play at the end of the period, but couldn’t tie up the game.

The Red Wings scored early in the second period to make it 3-1. The Ducks had a power play chance in the middle frame, but couldn’t convert.

Detroit scored for the third time on the power play early in the third period to make it a 4-1 score. The Red Wings added another goal toward the end of the period. The Ducks ended up dropping this game 5-1 to the Red Wings.

Analysis:

The Ducks got down early in this contest, but were able to tie things up on a goal by Zegras. Anaheim was in this contest after the first period, then got behind by two goals by the end of the second period. An early goal in the third period put the game out of reach as the Ducks couldn’t recover.

Special teams was the difference in this contest. The Ducks have four power play chances and didn’t score on any of them. The Red Wings had five power plays and were able to score on three of them. Anaheim ends the road trip 0-4-1.

The Ducks return home on Wednesday to face the Tampa Bay Lightning.
